Fall ’15 Project – Close the Door!

Design Project Description

Updates and Clarifications

11/6 Complexity and Battery Size Update

Complexity is worth 30% (30 points) and will be scored as follows:

30 points: 2+ unique energy forms (translational, rotational, electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, chemical) and 3+ transformations
20 points: 2 unique energy forms (translational, rotational, electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, chemical) and 2 transformations
10 points: Only 1 form of energy
0 points: No prototype present

I am increasing the battery weight limit to 1.5 kg (~3.3 lb) so two of the 6V batteries or most of the smaller 12V battery options should fall under this weight limit.

8/31 – In the process of pressing the button, your machine should not damage/destroy the wall-mounted button (or the wall) in the test set-up

9/1 – Your machine or a component of your machine can be attached to the wall as long as it is done in a non-permanent manner (must be quickly and easily removed with no damage for the other groups testing after your group)

9/15 – There will be a power strip/extension cord available near the test-up, however, remember that the maximum allowable voltage in your team’s device is 25V.
